Asian Games 2018: Neeraj Chopra Will Be Indian flag-bearer in Asiad

Star Indian Javelin Thrower Neeraj Chopra will be the Indian Flag-bearer in Asian Games 2018 Opening Ceremony in Jakarta. This is kind of a big deal considering other big names participating in the Asian Games 2018 especially from badminton.
Earlier this year, Neeraj Chopra won the Commonwealth Games 2018 Gold medal in his event in Gold Coast. Now, he will be holding and bearing Indian flag in this multi-sport event in Jakarta Palembang.
A send-off ceremony was organized for the Indian Asian Games squad on Friday where Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Narinder Batra announced that news regarding Neeraj Chopra being the flag-bearer.
For those who don’t kn0w, 20 years old Neeraj Batra is a star Javelin thrower who won gold medal in Commonwealth games and another Gold medal at Savo games in Finland against his chinese rival Chao Tsun-Cheng in July where he throwed 85.69 m to claim the gold.
Neeraj has a major history with the Gold medals. He won gold medal at the Asian Athletic Championship in 2017 and IAAF World under 20 championship gold medal at Bydgoszcz, Poland 2016.
He also holds the national javelin throwing record of 87.43 metres which he accomplished earlier this year in May in Diamond League throwing in Doha.
With so many accomplishments in such young age, Chopra is the perfect candidate to be given the responsibility to bear Indian flag.
Indian players had impressive performance in the last Asian Games 2014 in South Korea, Incheon where they won 11 Gold, 10 Silver and 36 Bronze, a total of 57 medals. It will be interesting to see how Indian squad will perform this year in Jakarta Palembang Asian Games 2018.

With only a week remaining before the Asian Games 2018, Indian sports association still hasn’t announced the Jakarta squad yet.
Although, after a series of ins and outs, IOA has sent a list of 575 players and 213 officials to the sports department on Monday. But they are still under talks and discussions and the final decision is yet to come.
